Could be a long shot but the 26th word on the description is, “pleasures”. Adding to the evidence that door 26 is the correct path.

How about Apple records, and the spinning drums from Karate Kid Part II? That movie came out in 1986, but those drums are probably some ancient Japanese thing, so it’s valid.

A possible solution for this room comes from looking at what all doors’ words have in common: they are things that are spun. The only door that has a picture of something else that is spun in 26, with the teacup (as in the spinning teacups carnival ride).

Reading the above comments and explanation I can see I missed a lot in this room. I chose Door 26 for a different reason: the “ringing behind one of the doors” seemed to indicate 26 because “Fable” is a kind of phonetic near-anagram of “A bell” (if you ignore the “F,” which seems to be permitted by the guide’s statement that “the silences of the Maze are as eloquent” as the sound).

I didn’t catch that answer on room 1 lol, but I figured it must be fable because adding up the alphabetic positions of the letters in fable (6 + 1 + 2 + 12 + 5) gives you 26. Not sure if he intended that or not…

I don’t know if this solution has been previously stated either in whole or piecemeal, but…
Back when I was a kid, my dad came up with what I thought was a brilliant solution to this room from clues in the narrative. “The sun glared at me through the gateway” is negative about sunlight, so the two doors with light shining on them are bad. “The silences of the Maze are as eloquent as the sounds” steers you away from the door that has something that makes sound (the drum). Thus, by process of elimination, we get door 26.

I don’t know that we’re meant to make that assumption. It’s a reasonable thought, but it doesn’t look like each vistor interacts with the door their statements surreptitiously reference. Only one door is opened (prior to their leaving, by a door of our choice), but that door is opened by visitor Late, and peered into by visitor Nary. Since their statements reference different doors, but they interact with the same one, I don’t think we can make any assumptions about which door it is.

The third child who said “late” opened the “tale” door. This door is the bottle door which is the only item that can be opened. He may left it open as in the book cover this door is still open.

This was the first solution I tried and I felt confident in my choice. I was surprised to see all of the other solutions listed above.
