Just found this book this week and it’s been a lot of fun. I’m wondering if anyone else thinks that its possible that the drum door in room 33 leads to room 20 just like the drum door in room 1.

I think in this room the door numbers are the sum of the alphabetic position of the first letter of the pictures above them. So;
3 = Button + Amphora (2+1)
35 =Jug+ V +Carriage (10+22+3)
7= Dagger+ Crown (4+3)
Then you can solve for the un-numbered room;
Fly + Key = 6+11=17

That allows you to make the connection into room 17. It also explains the mention of Amphora in room 17 as that was the most difficult one to spot!

The phrase between 2 commas is “considering their predicament”.

“considering” -> con-side-ring. As a prefix “con-” means “with”.
“predicament”: in logic is defined as a category or state.

The door with a category/state of with-side-ring is door 3 as it has a picture of a ring on the side.

Hmmm… this room is a pit. A lot of the pictographic symbols can be construed as synonyms for “container.”
A drum can mean a container. A flute is a term for a kind of pitcher. I dunno.

No, I can’t see anything else whatsoever. Perhaps it’s not meant to be clueing bird, but “wing” or “flight,” based on the pose? But there would be better ways to do so.
