Alchemy illustrations has long been thought to hide the secrets of the alchemists. Hiding knowledge, however, was not the intention; the goal was organizing and displaying knowledge in such a way to emphasize its supposed importance. Alchemy illustrations are highly symbolic and interpreting these symbols can feel like a riddle, but a true riddle is defined by the intention of the author. Alchemy illustrations only appears to be filled with riddles because we don’t have ready access to the original context.
