The mind bending blockbuster Inception contains three mazes. The first is the “physical” maze of the world, within a world, within a world of the dream. The second is the psychological maze of the target that they must solve to be victorious. And the third is the psychological maze of the main character which threatens to destroy their plans at any moment.
The center of the psychological mazes in found in the psyche of those individuals, but the center of the “physical” maze of the dream worlds is the deepest world where time stands still. In this deepest level everything constructed by the dreamer lasts forever, and so this world has become a sprawling metropolis of abandoned buildings. Here the maze is a trap because it is an escape from life. This is a surreal twist on the maze concept – the desire for escape is what traps a person.
