Masonic Imagery

The multitude of symbols and illustrations of the Freemasons have served many purposes  over the ages: group recognition, concealing knowledge, transmitting knowledge, creating an air of mystery, membership advertising, etc. However, to my knowledge the imagery has never been created as an intentional riddle.  A riddle hides knowledge for the purpose of if it being uncovered by an outsider, while the imagery of the Freemasons is meant to either keep knowledge hidden so that only those in the group understand, or it is meant to convey knowledge (such as the classic emblem displayed on the outside of a lodge).
